In the sixth grade, two boys sat down with a pencil and a wild imagination. Together they created a little story about a character named Herbert. Neither of us knew that decades later, those fading pages would become one of my most treasured possessions—and a reminder that the stories we create together can outlive us.

"These are the actual pages we wrote together in sixth grade. More than fifty years later, they're still here—creased, faded, and torn—but every word remains."

Reader Advisory

The authors were in the sixth grade.

We thought snakes were hilarious, burps deserved to be in literature, and absolutely nothing was too ridiculous to write down.

We make no apologies.

We simply invite you to remember what it was like to be eleven years old.
